Our Story

In 2018, Lauren Hsei took a school survey about faith at her high school, Monte Vista Christian School. After, she was asked to meet with Nathan Talley, the Director of Spiritual Development. During their meeting, Lauren was asked what she thought was missing from her school. She said, "I feel like it's just so hard to find like-minded friends. I just wish I had a group of Christian girls I could do life with." "Why don't you just start a group?" Talley simply responded.

And that's when it all began!

Lauren Hsei grabbed Alayna Matthews,

Lauren Graef and Bella Finney and the

four sophomores started to meet with

Talley to plan for the making of Sisters

in Christ. After many meetings, Sisters

officially became a school club.

At its beginning, Sisters had an

attendance of about 7 girls as they met

once a week during lunch. They ate,

talked about life, and shared devotionals

about what God was teaching them.

The next year, Sisters continued to meet

as a club and the number of members began to grow and grow. The second semester of that school year, Sisters became their school's first ever student-led small group chapel venue.

Alayna, Bella, and the Laurens saw how greatly Sisters was starting to encourage students and faculty in their faith; whether they attended the chapel or not! Even then, God had bigger plans for Sisters than just staying in one school. He planted a seed in the hearts of these four leaders to not only love the girls at Monte Vista, but to spread this gift of community to as many other schools possible.

By their senior year, weekly meetings had an attendance of about 80 students. Concurrent to leading and planning meetings, the four founders trained and mentored four new leaders to take over the Monte Vista Sisters Chapter when they graduated.

Since 2020, Sisters launched three new Sisters Chapters, and is in the middle of starting several more.

Now, Lauren Hsei and Bella Finney work on the continuation and growth of Sisters and its Chapters. The journey of Sisters in Christ has not been easy, but God has carried us the whole way. He is the true founder, leader, and provider for Sisters! We give all the glory to Him.
