The Greatest Escape

I have felt miserable the last few days. It’s obvious that the coronavirus has left many feeling helpless or defeated or scared or even lonely. Last night I felt so overwhelmed with the stress of school work. Not leaving my house for four days was really starting to have an impact on me. I felt like everything was happening all at once and was completely out of control. As I crawled into bed last night, all I could think about was how much more stress tomorrow would bring. I have spent so much time stressing the past couple days that I have barely spent any time with God. It wasn’t until I looked up Bible verses for this devotional that I realized that’s what I’ve been missing, time with God.

One verse that stood out to me was John 14:27, in which God tells us, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

As I read this verse, I felt all my stress fade away from me. I realized that I serve a God who is so much greater than what I am feeling. God is good. He loves to love us. And He loves to keep us safe. He wants to give you the same peace He has given me.

Psalm 46:1-3 tells us that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.”

God gives us strength, peace, and understanding. He is the solution to our stress. If you’re feeling scared or defeated, run to Him. Spend some time praying to Him or reading the Bible. Time with Him is the perfect escape.
