Sisters are like elephants...

This probably seems like a weird topic for a devotional but I am going to be talking about elephants. One of my favorite authors, Jen Hatmaker, gives a beautiful picture of what sisterhood looks like and I wanted to share it with you all!
First of all, fact check. When a female elephant is pregnant, the other female elephants surround and protect her from any harm. When a baby elephant is delivered, the sister elephants do two things: they kick dirt over the newborn to protect its fragile skin from the sun, and they all start trumpeting. They celebrate new life and of sisterhood and admire something beautiful coming out of this cruel and dark world.
This is something important for us to do as Sisters in Christ. We have to be there to help, care for, and protect our sisters in need. Sometimes you’re one of the female elephants protecting and caring for your sister. Other times, you might be the pregnant elephant in need. I actually have an example from when I was the pregnant elephant.
This happened really recently. I had two seizures last year during October and November, and resulted in me having to have brain surgery and be hospitalized for a week. But because of the support I received from prayer and visits from my fellow sisters, it made me feel like I was loved, protected and cared for.
I am going to close out this devo with a verse all of you probably know really well now: “a friend loves at all times, but a sister is there in times of trouble.”- Proverbs 17:17.
